Book Buddies

If you are interested in helping children learn to read, volunteers are needed to help first and second grade students who need a little extra tutoring in reading.The only requirements are the ability to read and a personal background check, which wil be completed before any volunteer works with a student. You will be trained to use the packet of reading materials. The children will be recommended by the teacher.

Nancy Norcross a retired Graham County Teacher is the coordinator of the program. This program is based on an existing tutorial program, "Book Buddies", which pair a volunteer with an individual student. It is suggested that each student receive two tutorial sessions a week. If you cannot do two sessions alternatives can be arranged.
