James G. K. McClure Educational and Development Scholarship
Founded in 1927, the James G. K. McClure Educational and Development Fund was originally organized to support efforts by the Farmers Federation to improve the conditions of life for the people of
Western North Carolina
. In 1959, the fund was named for the man who originally founded and managed both organizations. Jamie McClure administered the Fund until his death in 1999.
Criteria: Demonstrated financial need, Good moral character, Academic ability/achievement minimum of 3.0 weighted GPA, Significant community service at school and/or community, Extracurricular activities and/or work experience
Open to: Students who plan to attend college.

Deadline: February 10th
Amount: Recipients planning to attend a four-year college will receive up to $2,000 each. Those recipients going to public four-year schools will receive $1,000 each. Selected students intending to study at the community college level will each have $300 available.
Payment of funds: Payment of the scholarship awards will be made directly to the applicable school at the beginning of the freshman year. These scholarships are one-time awards. Recipients will be contacted during the summer to gather information about educational plans. Funds will then be sent to the college you are attending.
